The card system was developed by Nc State University Communications and Marketing to accommodate and highlight a vast variety of NC State content: news stories, video, social media posts, quotes, and university pride points within a single page. With a compelling and responsive layout, the card system has proven to encourage users to scroll and engage with more content than before. This system is currently highlighted on ncsu.edu.
The card system offers six content types that can be arranged in various ways to dynamically tell a story. The six content types include news story, video, photo, tweet, quote, and a factoid.
Each card is tracked through google analytics, allowing marketers to understand what types of content best resonate with their audience. In addition, the backend interface allows a user to quickly swap blocks, creating entirely new layouts without the burden of creating new content.
The card system is entirely responsive. Each card shifts appropriately to allow for a perfect gridded experience at every breakpoint.
Each row can appear in two orientations through a flip setting. This allows content creators to have nine layouts to create a unique experience depending on their content.
The NC State card system is available as a plugin through the NC State WordPress theme and is dispersed to interested campus partners.
